83rd Annual Academy Awards

We decided to forgo dinner for appetizers while we watched the
Oscars this year.  I love to make an evening out of it and dress up
and have a glass of my favorite chardonnay.  Jim even made me
little Oscar statues and a Hollywood sign to make it feel more festive.
The kids love when we have snack night.  This one was a tad fancier
than our normal snack night but hey............it's the Academy Awards,
right?

Jim even made me a sign to show our menu.  Isn't he sweet!

Gourmet Dog Biscuits

Every once in a while I like to take a little extra time and make
my dogs homemade dog biscuits.  They go absolutely bonkers
over these soft meaty treats!  Chip our chocolate lab couldn't
wait till I got through taking pictures! She devoured two
immediately after this shot. The key ingredient in the bones is
the meat flavored baby food. Beech-Nut makes a Beef and Beef
broth one I like to use but you can use any savory flavor you like.

Broccoli, Potato and Egg Pie with Cheddar and Bacon

Okay, as you can tell I'm still on my Broccoli kick.   I'm that kind
of person......if I get stuck on something I can eat it for a long time
much to my families dismay.  Well, they can just relax because
next I'm on to my Oscar night party and not one thing has broccoli
in it.  So there......  ;)

I found this recipe on the Cabot cheese website.   You can click
here for the recipe.  Jim and I order cheese from them quite often
and when I ran across this dish I really wanted to try this technique
for the crust.  It uses a roll of Pillsbury bread sticks.  Yeah, that's what
I thought but it worked.

Broccoli, Mushroom and Bacon White Pizza

White pizza is one of my favorites and tonight I decided to experiment
with some different flavors.  I have been on a broccoli kick lately and
thought that some bacon would be a great partner with it.  And I don't
know about you but I can't imagine pizza without mushrooms.  Gasp!
I adore them so....... on they went.

I usually try to make my own pizza crusts but in a pinch the store
bought ones do just fine.  It makes life so easy when trying to get a
fast dinner made after work.  I'm not one to get all fussy about...just
about any product.  If it tastes good and it works for you......use it!

My kids liked this version so well that I'm going to try another version
soon.  I think the next version it will be........Spinach, Artichoke hearts
and Pine nut white pizza.  Mmmm... The possibilities are endless.
I'm getting hungry again already!

Bill Granger's "Valentine" Chicken Stir fry

For our Valentine dinner I wanted to try Bill Granger's Chicken Stir fry
I swear the more of Bill's recipes I try the more I want to go out and buy
every cookbook he has ever written.  He has such a fresh casual way
with food.  I love his style!

I adore all the fresh veggies in this dish.  I did make chopping a little
harder on myself though by cutting heart shapes out of the red peppers
but it did make the meal a little more Valentine-y.  The sauce is great
and calls for Ketjap Manis (an Indonesian soy sauce) which not everyone
has in their pantry but more than likely you have everything to make it
yourself at home.  So no worries........

Happy Valentine's Day!

Potato Skin Eggs

Jim and I usually eat breakfast on the run on weekday mornings so
I like to make Sunday morning special.  These were so special!!

I took two of my favorite posts...... Parmesan Eggs and The Perfect
Baked Potato and made these yummy Potato Skin Eggs.  Actually,
it's a great way to use up leftovers.  I had two leftover baked potatoes
and leftover bacon from Saturday morning's breakfast.

Crocheting for my Pantry

Today I'm sharing something not from my pantry but ..........for my pantry.

My potholders are all old and grungy so I decided to make
some new ones.  I looked on Ravelry for a knitted pattern but
fell in love with this vintage crocheted pattern by Maryse.  My
great Aunt Eva taught me to crochet when I was a little girl but I
haven't crocheted in a few years.  Lately I've been concentrating
on my knitting and learning how to knit socks and other things.

Japanese Rice Bowl AKA The Bradley Bowl

This recipe has a story behind it.

Our youngest........our daughter Bay was adopted from S. Korea.
Well, in 2007 we took the whole family to Korea with our Adoption
Agencies Birth Land Tour.  For two weeks we traveled all over the
country from Seoul down to  Pusan in a tour bus with other
Adoptive Families.  It was one of the best experiences of our lives.

Cauliflower Cake

Today in Oklahoma we are having blizzard conditions. Jim
and I are home from work.......and of course,  I'm spending my
day putting around in the kitchen.

I've been looking at this recipe on the Guardian website for
a couple of months.  If you haven't heard of the Guardian, it's a
British daily newspaper.  In the food and drink section they
have some really exciting chefs with really wonderful ideas.   I love
their website because they have some unique things I might not
regularly think to make,  like this Cauliflower Cake by Yotam
Ottolenghi.  Ottolenghi's motto is that their food is "familiar and
straight forward, yet highly innovate".  So true.....
