Korean Bulgogi Burgers

As most of you know, our family is a Korean/American
family.  Our daughter was adopted from S. Korea in 2000.
Korean cooking has been sort of a passion of mine since
that time.  I ran across this recipe and knew I wanted to try
it.  It's similar to my Korean open faced hamburgers but
more like a traditional burger with a Asian twist.

I was tempted to forgo the radish for kimchi but I'm glad I
didn't.  It added a nice crunch and nothing masked the
wonderful flavors in the meat.  I did add the sriracha mayo
to make it my own and it was just the right touch!  I did
have to keep my husband out of it though.  He kept
dipping the fries in the sauce and mumbling how good it

                                      Korean Bulgogi Burgers
                                                                          (printable copy)
                                        Adapted from Cooking Light

½ cup green onions, chopped
1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoons ginger, peeled and minced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
½ tsp. black pepper
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 lbs. ground beef
Cooking spray
6 hamburger buns
6 leaves leaf lettuce
5 radishes, sliced

Sriracha Mayo

½ cup mayo
2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce

Prepare grill.

Combine first 8 ingredients mixing gently. Divide mixture into
6 equal portions, shaping into patties.

Place patties the grill rack coated with cooking spray. Grill on both
sides until a thermometer registers 160 degrees. Remove from grill
and set aside.

Place buns, cut side down, on the grill rack. Grill one minute or until

Place Sriracha mayo on buns, top with a lettuce leaf and radish slices
and top half of bun.

In 2007 our whole family flew to Korea for 2 weeks on a
birthland tour with our adoption agency.  One of the things
we still talk about is the Bulgogi burger you could get at
every McDonalds.  We loved them!  I think we ate them
at least 5 times while we were there. We don't know why
they don't have it here....they are so good.  This burger is close
if not a tad fancier that McD's but the flavor is spot on....

Why don't you try a little taste of Korea tonight?
